Twitter launches its Business Guide – But Why?

When Dell announced the profits it has made using the twitter channel there was not even a word spoken from the twitter side. In fact everybody thought at least Biz Stone would come out with a press release to congratulate Dell and shout to the world that twitter has got the business benefits.Well twitter has made a well planned move by keeping silence when Dell came out with the twitter effect. On the 23rd of the July twitter has released there first attempt to pitch the businesses to use twitter to increase visibility and to gain customer access. Twitter has released a twitter 101 guide for business and everybody is happy about it.

As usual and as predicted the Dell story is on the front page of the case studies with some other brands for food like CoffeeGroundz. The guide contains six resources in total staring from what is twitter. The six topics covered in the guide are What is twitter, Getting Started, Learn the lingo, Best Practices, Case studies ( Dell 3 million dollar profits are the main reason for this I still believe) and other resources.

Other resources included in the guide are books – The one from oreilly is a must read if you work on twitter, Articles and Sites – Sites which usually write more about twitter like Mashable which has a complete section targeting only the twitter audience and the last the blog post – this blog posts are very less comparing to the the media and the blog attention twitter is getting.

I think the next thing twitter can do start sending this twitter 101 guide to the business executives on the twitterberry.

Today’s post is about search engine optimization (SEO). A few years ago, SEO was relatively unknown. But today, pretty much everybody has heard of Google. In fact, over 85% of Americans have used search engines to locate websites online. This has a big impact on business. Since so many people are searching for websites, being ranked in Google has become very important to businesses. Thus, SEO has gained significant importance as well.

In the early days, SEO was something you could do yourself. There were many books, like SEO For Dummies, that you could get at the bookstore and in an afternoon be up and running. There were easy afternoon SEO seminars that taught you the basics. I won’t go over all of them here because there are so many articles already describing what they are. This includes Title Tags, Description, Keywords Density, H1 tags, on-site linking, just to name a few. Real SEO experts will cover all this with you if you don’t know what it is.

But the main point I want to make about SEO is that it has changed very rapidly in the last few years. SEO is no longer something you can just “do by yourself.” At least not on any competitive term. Perhaps you could SEO your site yourself on a three or four words phrase and rank on it, but there is not likely to be a significant traffic. When you get into the competitive keywords, SEO is extremely competitive.

In today’s environment, it is best to hire an SEO expert to help you with strategy. Or if you feel that you have your keyword targets already worked out, hire an SEO services firm to help with execution. Plan for a several year project to get to the top of the search engine rankings, such as Google, in any competitive keyword space. Again, the SEO firm you work with should tell you this.
